Patriotism

The Bloom Forum Project 52 || 37/52

Over the past 37 weeks, I have joined with 15 other women across the world from the Bloom Forum to make a circle of photographs with our blogs. In that circle, each photographer links to another’s unique interpretation of the weekly theme. Some of my favorite themes are Family, Human Connection, Silhouette, and Light and Dark.

This week’s theme for Project 52 is “Patriotism.” With the anniversary of 9/11 this past weekend, I had some time to reflect on this theme as I found myself watching the documentary 9/11 By the Naudet Brothers narrated by Robert Deniro with tears in my eyes. I had thought that seeing those images over and over would numb me to the impact of that day. I’m here to report, 10 years later, that my feelings are all to easy to recall. I’m so moved by the ability of people to unify and aid one another in even the most desperate situations.

When I heard “America the Beautiful” this weekend and heard “Purple Mountain Majesties,” I knew what I wanted to photograph. I live in the foothills of the great Smokie mountains. Every time I drive north to see Table Rock or Caesar’s Head, my spirit wells up and I’m so grateful to live in this beautiful country.

This is gorgeous Jen. You definitely captured America the Beautiful. We watched that documentary this weekend too. It’s still so difficult to see those images.
