Last weekend, Andy and I took the boys to Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel. Started in 1852 to connect Charleston to Knoxville and eventually on to Cincinnati, the Civil War—and lack of funds—brought construction to a halt. The tunnel is still accessible today to families and tour groups. Though it is very advised to bring a good flashlight and an extra set of batteries… it’s very, very dark! And YES! There are bats in there… somewhere!
These photographs are part of a blog circle of great photographers around the globe. To see their work, please start by visiting Carrie Terrones from Las Vegas, NV to view her “Spooky” picture for this week!

My spelunkers.

At the entrance of the tunnel.

Inside the tunnel at the first gate. I have no flashlight, but I do have a camera!

Doesn’t this look like it could be Spielberg’s next film idea?

Making their way back to the entrance…

Finally back into the blinding daylight!
