I originally posted this on twistedpearphotography.com/blog in June. It’s still one of the hardest challenges I’ve given myself and so I felt compelled to repost it here on the new blog site.
Inspired by Zack Arias who challenged himself to take 10 portraits in 10 hours in NYC, yesterday I tried to take five portraits in one hour in downtown Greenville. This personal challenge had nothing to do with competitiveness and everything to do with having to pick up my kids from camp and reading Zack’s post late in the day. When inspiration hits… it hits!
Wow! The idea of approaching complete strangers and asking to take a portrait really broke me out of my comfort zone and forced me to interact with them. I was so grateful for the willingness and friendliness of the people I met. Thank you for your generosity! I’m a believer now in putting myself out there a bit more. Thanks to Oliver Yu for pushing me harder on that point too.
